Government influence on choice

Economics

I was thinking not too long ago on why I bought my house...  Was it because of the nice brick, the front lawn, perhaps the investment and ownership of owning your own space.  Although those are good reasons, I remember the exact reason why I eventually bought my home.  It wasn't for any of the above it was mainly due to the amount of income taxes I had been paying when renting.  I was living in a very modest apartment, not really owning any real equity but yet I was being "punished" by not having anything to write off.  Now owning a home I've been able to:

  • Write off mortgage interest payments (which is quite significant)
  • Write off mortgage insurance protection
  • Write off sales tax (I live in Texas)
  • Change my W-4 withholding

Just by the simple act of buying a home I was able to earn more of my money paycheck to paycheck AND receive some of my the income taxes back I had paid throughout the year.  So why am I talking about this now?  Well I thought about this when I was reading about the Cash for Clunkers program in which the Federal Government is providing incentives for individuals to trade in their so-called "gas guzzlers" for something more economical.  Wait...Let's describe it how it is.  It is the Government using taxpayer funded money for people to trade in their own vehicle to go into debt for another one.  This is clearly another scheme for the Government help "stimulate" the economy by artificially injecting taxpayer money for those that probably would have traded in their cars once gas hits $4/gallon again.

Again, Government is here trying to force the will of the consumer in a trickery to trade in their cars.  Am I glad that it may provide a few more jobs...sure.  Am I upset for those that have received such of a generous deal...no.  What I am upset about is the Government using these programs to get people more in debt, artificially control the economy, and eventually ruining our financial system.  Sure...you can say we that we are in a deep recession...but we have to understand what got us here in the first place.

Federalized Healthcare is better! Yeah right...

Politics

I know for a lot of people...healthcare is one of those touchy subjects.  Either you want "socialist" aka Universal Healthcare (they use Universal because they want to cover what it really is) or you want privatized healthcare.  Well, Obamacare is in the works and it appears that he is willing to put a lot on the line to accomplish his goal.  The thing here is however President Obama admits...admits I remind you...that Government doesn't do things better than private industry.  Yesterday he stated:

"I mean, if you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? No, they are. It's the post office that's always having problems."

Why is Obama campaigning on something in which he says private industry can do better?  I'm perplexed here...we are going to spend taxpayers money on an institution in which we already know doesn't do better than private industry?  Am I missing something here...

Smear Campaign

Politics

In an effort to set the public right in so many ways Obama has decided to use our taxes to launch a damage control campaign called “Fight the Smears” by some coalition called “Truth.”  Well this is as much spin as I can remember coming from some president.  I’m not saying that other presidents have not lied to us...like the war in Iraq...but c’mon to come up with some website/blog about how great you are and how much of the “facts” you are messing up is something unheard of.  I can understand lying...but do you also have to falsify and deceive?  Yeah, let’s get the facts from the government...I’m sure that is the most reliable source for facts and bullshit that we should expect from a government that is trying to falsify their record and cover the truth.  Perfect poly and I commend Obama on the deception...not every president can pull this off with the same falsified or bandwagon poll ratings as you can with Obama’s poll ratings.

Increase in taxes or not? I think I know the answer…

Politics

Alex Brandon/AP Yesterday it seems that all of Obama’s henchmen were out saying that taxes were on the rise…and yes we are talking about taxation on the middle class.  Then Obama comes out today and says…Ooh no!  We are not going to raise taxes!  What will they say tomorrow…they are going to start taxing the homeless for living on public property?  Realistically we should all know the Democrat model of tax and spend.  Here they already have spent the money and need to find a way to recoup…who will foot the bill?  The middle class of course…if you go for the class that has the most amount of people a raise in 1% of taxes is significant into government coffers.  So if Obama is saying no tax increases…I wonder how he is going to get the money needed.  I don’t know about you but I’m going to start saving now and putting more in my 401(k) before I won’t anything to take home on my paycheck.  Oh did I mention that besides the threat of increasing taxes it appears that socialistic healthcare is coming to America?  Hmm…whose footing the bill for this?  Oh and how will it be funded?  Oh but he isn’t going to raise taxes…  Riiiight…  I remember having a debate with a friend about this before the election and I said…you watch…the middle class will get a tax hike.  He said…”What the middle class?  You have to be kidding me…he is a friend of the middle class.”  So much for friendship…when can we breakup?

Ron Paul is this Blogger's choice

Politics

The funny thing is most people admire Rudy for his stance on Homeland Security. The the problem is he does not fundamentally understand the consequences that our foreign policy has lead to. Do the Fundamentalist Muslims have a problem with the USA? Absolutely not...they have a problem with America's foreign policy. We need to stop this imperialism.
I think Ron Paul has the appeal from both the Liberals, Conservative Republicans, and Libertarians alike.

Geraldo and his libertarian ties?

Politics

Yesterday I heard Geraldo make a statement that made my ears perk up a bit. He said, "The true Republican is more of a Libertarian...". How true is that? The Republicans have ventured so far from their principles that it makes me disappointed of the party today. This is why I am Libertarian. You will find very dedicated, freedom loving individuals that hold true to their principles when it comes to not only politics but also their way of life.
If you want a real Republican (Libertarian) for 2008 then vote for Ron Paul (http://www.ronpaul2008.com/)

Something you won’t find in the 2008 Presidential Candidates

Politics

If you are following the presidential hopefuls for 2008 you may find candidates that:

  • “Say” that they want less government
  • “Imply” that they want to lower taxes
  • Try to sway you from one side or the other
  • Avoid sensitive issues that may be unpopular
  • Or flat out have no platform but a pretty face (No, I'm not talking about Hillary)
  • Rely on Name Recognition (I'm talking about Hillary)

You will find this in either Republican or Democrat candidates, but I implore you to find out. Who shows us to be a leader? Who will stand up for individuals and to keep our rightfully earned money? Who will be lead America to be a Great Nation that we are?

You won't find leadership in any candidate nor will you notice them to have leadership qualities. A leader is one who will make decisions not based upon polls but what is the right direction for the country. Our country was founded upon the principles of individuality and self-sovereignty…don't let politicians take this away from you. Vote Libertarian!

For those who think "it is a wasted vote" watch this on the History of the Libertarian Party.

Shame on you people who want to have kids

Politics

I can’t believe that people want to have their own kids these days. A “scientific” study just came out that adoptive parents are better than biological ones. Why waste your time now? How ridiculous! Well, that is a downer on all of you that have your own biological mom and dad…you may want to rethink about getting new parents.
