Why burn the American Flag?
Do you have the right to burn the American Flag? The House of Representatives just passed a bill that would constitutionally make it a crime to desecrate the American Flag. Where do you stand? Do you think it is such a crime to desecrate the American flag that one deserves jail time? Thank goodness it takes the approval of the Senate and ratification by the states to amend the Constitution. The United States Flag stands for freedom, and that includes freedom of expression. So why do we want to create an amendment to take away our very right of freedom of expression (that includes burning of the flag)? Here is another bill brought to you by your government to take more of your rights and liberties away, however it does not have a chance for the Senate to pass such a bill. The 1st Amendment not only protects those rights of the majority, but also those of the minority (even if the actions are unpopular). Thus, you have every right to desecrate the flag as you please...just make sure you don't do it around me or any other Patriotic American because you will be punished in other ways. For those of you that wouldn't stand up to burning of the American Flag then you are those Americans that do not appreciate what the flag means and represents. These Americans are the very same ones that would not go to war to protect our country and constitution. Therefore, there is no need for any amendment that further restricts our rights. Anybody that desecrates the American Flag will have to answer to me and every other Patriotic American in the United States and beyond. As one Senator put it, "The American Flag stands for freedom, thus we cannot put it above what it symbolizes."
