Here we are...a Nation that was unified by the terrorist attacks of September 11th and there seems to be no end to the Democrats attempt to divide the nation and criticize the Bush Administration for their own personal gain. This year is an off-election year, which means that the Democratic chances to gain seats in the house and senate will be hard under a popular Republican President. Are these accusations by the Democrats... ...worthy of praise or a political attempt to further undermine the president's popularity? Lately we have all heard on the news of the President's prior knowledge of a hijacking to occur. For the Liberals in the United States this was a perfect way to question the interests of the President while they can add some fuel to the fire against the Administration.
I would like to clarify certain issues that have been bothering me for the past few days of these blind and dangerous verbal attacks on the President of the United States. Everyday the President receives warnings of terror attacks on this country, the specificity of the threats are not given (i.e. the date, the time, and the place of the attack). Although there is a threat that cannot be ignored, how should one react with such vague information? This blind, blame game by the Democrats on President Bush's knowledge of the terror attacks has no roots in logic and I believe that the American people are aware of these tactics. For example, today I can tell you that somebody will die from a gunshot. When that occurs I will then blame that you are responsible for that incident because I had warned you and you did not take any action. How is this scenario different than what the Democrats are proposing?
What were you expecting President Bush to do in such a situation where the threat of an attack was imminent, but the time and place where not specified? President Bush DID privately tell officials of a danger and warned them of the issue so that the proper procedures could be put in place. However, what do we watch for? What kind of activity is suspicious enough? Why didn't he alert the public of these hazards? Two words...Racial Profiling. In the past, who have been the predominant hijackers of airplanes? Who have terrorized American Citizens overseas and held them hostage?
By telling the public of such a threat of a hijacking, that alone could destroy the airline industry overnight. Is it the President's responsibility to maintain order of the nation or tell the public of EVERY threat of a terrorist attack on this nation? Wouldn't that take most of the day to brief the public on the slightest threat on our nation? If you need to any more convincing of this viewpoint just read the Aesop's Fable of The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
President Bush did what he could in reg ards to the information given to him about the hijacking. He alerted the airlines of the threat, put the government agencies on a higher state of alert, and even planned an attack on al-Qaida and the Taliban prior to the September 11th attack. What we must question is not what information was given to President Bush, but we must question why the attack occurred in the first place. For this we have to look at the Carter and Clinton Administrations. Where we have the Carter Administration to thank for the decrease in human intelligence and increase on technology dependence for intelligence. Then we have the Clinton Administration to thank for decreasing the size of our military and neutering the effectiveness of the agencies that could have thwarted such attacks.
