Taxes

Economics

So I hear we are getting a tax refund eh? How many of us actually look at our pay stub and figure out how much taxes we pay for our own wages and income? How many of us actually know how much taxes we pay altogether? That is income taxes, social security taxes, land taxes, county taxes, state taxes, cigarette taxes, beer tax, import taxes, export taxes, and you name it, there is a tax for it. So why was the Democrats so against this since in the long run it will help them out? And is Bush actually telling the truth that help is on the way? What is all about this tax cut and how will you benefit? It is true people. We are getting a refund and some of our own money back. There are other things like the death penalty tax that will be phased out in 10 years. Penalty for Death? Like it wasn't already a devastating thing to happen, death, you had to pay for it?

Anyway, that is for another day. But most of these programs will be phased out in 10 years, such as the marriage tax and so on. However, they will be fully reinstated to their percentage as they are this year, after those 10 years have gone by. The Democrats should be all too willing to pass this tax cut. There were probably thinking, "We'll put this stipulation in there so that when we take control of the Senate, the House, and the Presidency in 2004, we can block the Bush tax relief and put in our own numbers." People, this is all too typical of your Democratic party. They have already tried to block these checks (remember they have control of the Senate.) In my opinion, the tax cut is way too small. We should let hardworking Americans keep the money that they worked for...every penny. However we have Government entitlement programs that we pay for (out of our pockets) to fund and we never see a dime back. For example, the welfare program is one of those programs that the Government takes a bit of what you make, and gives it to somebody that is "less fortunate." The socialists want you to think that those people that have wealth have "luck." They don't want you to know that hard work and making ends meet equals success. For those of you mathematically inclined: (Hard Work + Making Ends Meet = Success). The Democrats want you to be more dependent on the Government!!! But that is another subject to address in the future.

Tax breakdown (In terms of an honest day of work.) The Tax Foundation study offered the following breakdown of how many days Americans will have to work in 2001 to meet various tax obligations:
  • 50 days to pay individual income taxes.
  • 29 days will be spent working to pay payroll taxes.
  • 16 days of work to pay "hidden taxes" such as sales and excise taxes that drive up the cost of nearly all goods and services.
  • 10 days will be spent working to pay property taxes.
  • 12 days of work to pay their share of corporate income taxes, which are collected from companies but ultimately paid by consumers, employees and shareholders.
  • Finally, 5 days working to pay other business and miscellaneous taxes.
